I am a new Java user and am interested in guidance on how to get started. I work in the audit / risk management department of a local bank. My motivation for learning Java is that I am interested in (long-range goal) developing a risk management application for use in mid-sized banks. I need to associate with people who can point me in the right direction regarding the rudiments of applications development. If there is a more appropriate venue for beginners, please let me know.
