The successful candidate will perform as a lead architect for mission-critical web applications using J2EE technologies. These applications are customer facing, commercially available web products. The candidate must be able to take ambiguous and challenging assignments and work them into actionable plans and designs. The candidate will work with and oversee partner, vendor, and contract software engineers to deliver commercial-grade web applications. This is a senior-level position requiring strong leadership & communication skills. The candidate must have experience leading other developers, assigning technical work and development tasks, overseeing & actively participating in the design and build efforts. The successful candidate will have spent 10+ years in a rigorous software engineering environment and will have an excellent understanding of software development best practices, system architecture, & hands-on J2EE skills.

Responsibilities:
• Take an ambiguous and challenging assignment and work it to an actionable plan and design
• Act as a lead architect & designer of customer facing, commercially available web apps
• Plan, scope, size, architect, design, prototype, and engineer J2EE framework components
• Hands-on engineering of the most difficult and complex sections of the application
• Produce detailed functional and technical software specification documents for scalable, n-tier web applications
• Help establish and drive best practices for maximum code reuse, testability, application integration, performance, reliability, manageability and security
• Lead and mentor developers, assign technical work, oversee & contribute actively in the planning, architecture, & build efforts

Required Experience & Skills:
• Must have experience as the lead developer/architect on large Java enterprise-level web applications (e.g. 1,000+ concurrent users, 10,000+ total users, mission critical, high availability).
• Must have 10+ years in-depth software engineering experience, with an excellent understanding of software development best practices, system architecture, & excellent hands-on J2EE skills
• Must be expert in either Spring/ORM or EJB and must be generally expert in enterprise-level Java technologies (e.g. Design Patterns, Hibernate, JDBC, Web Services, Struts, App Servers).
• Extensive J2EE design experience using UML and OO Analysis and Design techniques.
• Strong experience performance tuning J2EE web applications
• Solid communication skills both written and verbal
• Highly motivated, experienced, resourceful.
• Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
• Bachelor of Science and 10 years software engineering experience or 12+ years software engineering experience

• Aspect Oriented Programming experience
• Hibernate, Spring and Struts experience
• WebSphere Application Server experience
• UNIX development experience
• Experience prototyping code solutions
• MS or PhD in computer science
• Financial industry experience
